John Brill of Durango emailed this photo of mountain ash, scattered among the thick aspen groves on McClure Pass, near Marble, Colo. “After leaving the Maroon Bells, my wife Amy, our dog Sport and I, crossed McClure Pass where we noticed several clumps of bright red mountain ash,” Brill tells EnCompass. “We scouted around a bit and finally the sun emerged and I was able to locate the perfect shot.” His camera: Canon T6i with a 18-135 wide angle lens.

Cold crossing

Kelly Bevilacqua of Boulder submitted online this photo of her husband, John, crossing Capitol Creek in the Maroon Bells area near Aspen. “Our family spent the weekend camping and enjoying the fall leaves,” Bevilacqua tells EnCompass. “Part of the trail we were hiking went across the creek, and since we didn’t want wet shoes, we all crossed barefoot. Boy was that water cold!” Her camera: Canon 5D Mark III. © Kelly Bevilacqua
