I get letters from members recalling when the Colorado Department of Revenue required an annual vehicle safety inspection and asking AAA Colorado to advocate for its return. Some members feel that we were safer on the road when cars were inspected by the state for things like working lights and brakes and sufficient tire tread.
Seventeen states require periodic vehicle safety inspections. In Colorado, statutes place the responsibility for safe vehicle condition on the owner/operator. We agree. Ultimately that is where the responsibility lies. AAA Colorado also wants to be part of the solution.
We’re excited that AAA Colorado is partnering with Denver7 ABC to host Colorado’s first annual Car Care Fair as part of October Car Care Month. This community event is open to the public and AAA members, and will help hundreds of motorists prepare their vehicles with a pre-winter checkup and safety check. AAA Colorado Roadside Service technicians will perform comprehensive, 20-point vehicle inspections—and not just lights and tires. Technicians will be examining everything from wiper blades to battery health to power steering fluid and beyond. The cost will be $10 per vehicle for AAA members at the event, and $5 for AAA members who pre-register online. Non-members will pay $15 at the event, and $10 if they pre-register online. Additionally, key AAA partners will be onsite with fun giveaways and booths for attendees to browse.
If you live outside the Denver Metro area, take your car to AAA Colorado Approved Auto Repair Facilities around the state for a safety inspection. Every Approved Auto Repair facility undergoes a comprehensive inspection, meeting stringent AAA standards unrivaled in the industry.
I look forward to seeing you at the Car Care Fair on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southlands Shopping Center in Aurora. That day and every day, our technicians look forward to keeping you on the move and safe on Colorado roadways.
